I have recently spoken to a reputable business who called me up from New Zealand and asked by their website wasn't ranking. I looked at the source code and found the same thing... a bunch of viagra ads [(these link to pages like: http://www.XXXXXXXXcom/news/log/2006/06/04/phentermine-sales/ and http://XXXXXXXXXXXXX.com/wp-admin/admin/2006/11/10/buy-levitra/)] - I've removed the links on purpose. I think blackhat SEOs are putting a really bad name for all of us who try to do the right thing.

Hey Erik, looks like you're site has been fully back in Google's index for several days now. I think upgrading to the latest WordPress should put you in much better shape going forward, too. You might have seen it, but I did a blog post about hacked sites on my blog last night: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/helping-hacked-sites/

On one hand, it's really annoying that people are hacking websites. But a different way to look at it is that if there were easier, legal ways of gaining links you'd expect bad guys to be going for those links. So in some sense, the fact that people are hacking sites indicates that spamming for links is getting harder via other means.
