Erik’s mini-FAQ:
- What’s with “speed?”
-
Well, if you must know
— at CMU, my e-mail was the catchy “es2q@andrew.cmu.edu.” That’s because at CMU, your e-mail was your first two initials and two random characters. They’ve since adjusted that. Anyway, when I went to UW, they sent me a card asking what I wanted for an e-mail alias. Well, I didn’t want es2q again, and for whatever reason I wasn’t feeling in the mood to have something semi-professional like “erik” or “selberg” or “ews.” So, while having a beer and watching “Speed Racer” on MTV just after midnight one fine night, I wrote down, “speed.” And I got it. And, for whatever reason, I’ve kept it.
- Are you related to me?
-
I don’t know. I’m busy working on a family tree, but here’s the gist: my great-grandfather John Richard Sälberg came over from Sweden around the turn of the century (1900) with his eight brothers and sisters, and ended up running gold mines in the Yukon before settling in the Portland area. Presumably, he got sick of people pronouncing his name “Salberg” and changed it to “Selberg” which is closer to the proper pronunciation. So, if this sounds familiar to you, then yes, you may be related!
- How come these pages take forever to load?
- Because they’re being hosted on a standard DSL with only 128K uplink. At least the good news is that the fine folks at SpeakEasy can give me a static IP so you can always find this page!
- I’m interested in buying a hot tub / spa…
- Well, I had a bit of a mis-adventure buying a spa on the internet. As always, caveat emptor! But I would recommend checking out the great folks at ClearWater Spas!
